Creating Opportunities for Women

Soroptimists are dedicated to transforming the lives of women and girls through access to education. The name Soroptimist means “best for women,” and that’s exactly what we strive to achieve.

Through our initiatives our members work to empower women to be their very best, creating ripples of change in local communities and across the globe. We are part of an international organization of nearly 95,000 members in 120 countries, advocating for women’s rights, health, and education. With our global motto, “A Global Voice… A Global Vision,” we believe that uniting voices across borders leads to real change.

We are proud to say that there are 19 representatives at the United Nations who are Soroptimists, giving women a voice in discussions that are shaping global policies. This representation reflects the heart of our mission: to create opportunities for women worldwide and to advocate for their rights at the highest levels.

About Soroptimist International of McMinnville

Soroptimist International of McMinnville was chartered in 1951 making a positive impact on the lives of women and girls right here.

We have played an active role in starting impactful local programs like the Bear Cubs childcare center at McMinnville High School. We support other non-profits, like MV Advancements who assist individuals with disabilities, with Provoking Hope helping those who struggle with addictions, and with Henderson House who offers safety and support to survivors of domestic violence.

We’ve also been instrumental in bringing the Hands and Words Are Not for Hurting pledge into our schools and businesses, encouraging non-violence and respect within our community. When you see the purple hand with a red heart in a business’ window, a Soroptimist probably placed it there.

This sense of community is part of what makes McMinnville so special. We are a truly collaborative community.

Together we can elevate each other, and create a brighter, more inclusive future for all. Rising tides really do raise all ships!
